"Let nothing be wasted!" These were the instructions of Jesus after the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000. In this moment in Jesus' leadership, He is helping His followers understand the value of trusting in God for everything.
Trust, although extremely difficult, is extraordinarily important to stewardship and leadership. Many businesses and churches feel like they lack the resources needed in order to grow and make a difference.
It is being reportedly daily in the news about the lack of resources and the high costs of goods. During inflation and supply chain disruptions, the world often looks at what is not obtainable. For the Christian leader, the focus should be on what God has already given.
In the feeding of the 5,000, Jesus took the little that the disciples found and maximized it into enough food to feed 5,000 men and probably that same number of women and children. Jesus transformed a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish into enough to provide for everyone.
What is interesting in the story is what happens after everyone is fed—there is an abundance of food. In fact, there are twelve baskets of food—one for each of the disciples to carry back to the boat to be used later.
The steward leader must consider where they are struggling to trust God.
They must consistently ask what they think God is trying to teach them about trust when resources and supplies seem scarce. God always provides for His people and His organizations. He provides resources, knowledge, wisdom and clarity for the next step.
Resources for what was coming….
We need to read what comes after the feeding of the 5,000 to fully understand what Jesus did.
The next scene shows the disciples on the move to find the place where they will be celebrating the Passover feast. When the reader understands the context of what comes next, they must consider that Jesus, knowing what was next, was bringing the extra bread to ensure that anybody that wanted bread for the Passover would be able to have it.
The truth is that in God's economy, nothing is ever wasted.
Steward leaders look past current situations to understand how to use what they have for a later purpose. They realize they have more than they think they have.
This perspective helps the leader know that God always has more in His resources than what the world can offer.
Join the "Well Done" movement:
"Well Done" is about thriving leaders and thrilling God. CEOs and leaders who are a part of this movement are on a mission to hear the words, "Well done" all throughout their lives and for all eternity.
Part of that mission is imparting the phrase "Well done" to other leaders and team members as much as possible.
Imagine a world where companies daily told their teams: "Well done!" Can you imagine the motivation employees would have if every day they were greeted with these words?
Can you imagine what you could accomplish if daily you heard God whisper, "Well done, my child. With you, I am well pleased!"
This is the mission that we are on. This is the mission that will change the world.
