Work is not cursed

Work is not cursedadobe

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (Genesis 2:15)

Let's clear up a common misunderstanding and hopefully change some thinking. Have you ever heard of work being referred to as "cursed"? Have you ever viewed your work as less than holy or not equal to other religious activities? This is simply not true—and it causes most Christians to immediately switch off at work.

The truth many never see is that work was created by God before disobedience (what the Bible calls sin) entered the world. It was while Adam and Eve still lived in paradise when God presented Adam with the idea and purpose of his job on earth. It was part of what God considered "GOOD" and was part of the perfect world in which Adam and Eve lived before sin entered the picture.

Work is good

What happened between the sixth day of the creation and present day to change the way we feel about work so drastically? Simple: A bunch of distortion. Adam and Eve disobeyed God and started a cycle of sin that you and I fight to this day. One of the many outcomes of this is the way in which we tend to view work. Originally, it was an expression of joy and love with the Creator, but then we began to compensate by either idolizing work or rejecting work. Despite the sweat and struggle added to man's work from sin, it did not stop being good. It just started being a bit harder. Work is still GOOD because it comes from the very character of who God is and His purpose for you; it is still His creation and it is still GOOD.
