When God is silent toward us (from A.W. Pink’s The Attributes of God)

Has God been letting you struggle with a hard decision or heavy issue for a long time?

"Why doesn't he just answer?" you may wonder.

You're not alone, believe me. We pray and pray. We wait. We search Scripture. Sometimes the answer to our questions is "Wait just a little longer."

Waiting is frustrating. How much quiet must we endure?

We looked at navigating God's silence when we studied Andrew Murray's classic, Waiting On God. There's another beautiful encouragement from A.W. Pink's book The Attributes of God (1930).

In his chapter on God's faithfulness, Pink writes, "Though you cannot now harmonize God's mysterious dealings with the avowals of his love, wait on him for more light. In his own good time he will make it plain to you."

Pink points to John 13:7, a loving reminder from Jesus to his confused disciples at the Last Supper: "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand" (NIV).

They didn't understand why he was acting like their servant. Very soon, they wouldn't understand why he had to go to the cross. Neither do we understand God's ways.

If you find yourself immersed in confused silence, waiting on God's guidance, remember Arthur Pink's comforting words: "In his own good time he will make it plain to you."

How long is God's "own good time?"

Just a little longer.

Waiting,
