"But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit" (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
Deeply-rooted believers are not terrified by heat and long-range weather forecasts. Their nourishment and refreshment come from a deep and abundant source. They are fruitful while others complain.
There is a resource that never grows dry. There is refreshment easily reached by turning to God in trust and obedience.
Where does your hope come from?
In what do you place your confidence?
Psalm 121:2 gives us words to declare our answer to these questions:
"My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!"
This makes a nice, simple breath prayer. You can keep it handy for when you need it. When you are running out of patience, perspective, or personal resources, God continues overflowing with goodness, grace, and mercy. Pray this affirmation and carry on.
"My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!"
Heaven Maker and Earth Maker also makes cooler temperatures and rain. Turn to him. Trust him. Tell him and yourself so. Tell others where your strength comes from. Tell them the source of your joy.
Our Father, you are the reservoir that never runs dry. You are the river that continually flows. You are the rain that so lovingly refreshes the land. You take care of people, pets, livestock, wildlife, crops of the field, and plants of all kind. We can trust you and do what you say because you always seek our highest good. You are our hope and help. We belong to you. Amen.
