"This God, our God forever and ever—he will always lead us" (Psalm 48:14, CSB).
Always and forever—how many songs through the years have used this declaration regarding the love of a man and a woman? How many singers who sang such words also sang breakup songs?
When God sings to those he loves, it is always and forever with an Always and Forever love. Any breakups are the responsibility of the man or woman who walks away from him.
God's commitment to us has been demonstrated throughout history. So too has been human inability to live completely faithful lives.
Our Father in heaven will lead us forever and ever. He will always lead us. The only question is whether we will follow. This is a good question for a Monday. It is a good question every day.
Here in front of me, just below my computer screen, is an annual calendar. Each date from the previous year has a circle around it or an X through it. The X indicates that I followed well that day. The circle indicates a day when I took a detour. Thankfully, there are many more dates with an X than otherwise.
Is today a circle or an X day? A big part of the outcome is determined by what we decide right now. Our Father in heaven is ready to lead the way. Are you ready to follow?
Our Father, show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Amen.
