Seeing eye to eye with God: leading with righteousness, compassion, and eternal perspective

For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds. The upright will see his face. —Psalms 11:7
We will look Him straight in the eye when we allow Him to set our lives right, when we learn to take the right actions in all things at all times, and when we walk through this world seeing as He sees, loving as He loves.
God loves it when our hearts mirror His. He loves it when we do what He does. He loves it when, as the old song says, we look full in His wonderful face.
One of the few men I know who most fully measures up to this text reached out yesterday via text message.
He inquired about a property transaction and what it makes possible for the Kingdom of God. It was delightful to discover how several of us are thinking the same thoughts. His affirmation, in particular, was most encouraging.
One of Amy Grant's earliest songs to sing was "Father's Eyes."
Our friend embodies this beautiful idea. He has our Father's eyes. He does righteous deeds. He will one day see God face to face without shame. He has our Father's heart and our Father's hands. He thinks God's thoughts and serves with our Father's compassion.
He also has cancer, and not for the first time. He has simplified his life to maximize his relationships at home and among those people in the community everyone else avoids. He loves the least and the lost. His smile seldom fades. He prays without ceasing.
I cannot read this verse without thinking of this man I delight to call friend. He makes me want to lean into the reality this verse declares. He invites me to journey with him in his walk with God. The invitation extends to you as well.
Let God set your life straight. Allow Him to empower you for simple acts of compassion and kindness. Ask Him to grow your heart and mind, to strengthen your hands, and to guide your steps. Seek the filling of His love in your heart.
One day, you will see God face to face. Ultimate joy will overflow your soul. Your best laugh ever will express all the gratitude of your heart.
Whatever replaces tears as a sign of deepest emotion will abundantly flood your new life. It all begins with seeing eye to eye with God here and now.
I will live an upright life.
Our Father, I cannot live an upright life apart from your guidance and empowerment. I require renovation and transformation. Do what you need to do, what you alone can do, to fit me for life in your immediate presence. Amen.
