New Year's resolutions require implementation

New Year's resolutions require implementationiStock

I bet whatever it is, it fits into one of three areas: Health, Finances, or Personal Development.

Since we're coming up to the end of a year (and what a year it's been, no?), I thought I'd mention something that I believe with all my heart can be a tool for your success in the next year. I call it the 95 Club.

But first allow me to lay a foundation.

I Googled the word "stress" and I got over 1.1 billion results in a fraction of a second—all on the phone I was holding in the palm of my hand. Now, compare that to the statistics from The American Institute of Stress that indicate about 33 percent of people report feeling extreme stress. 77 percent of people experience stress that affects their physical health. And 73 percent of people have stress that impacts their mental health.

On one hand, with 1.1 billion pieces of information on stress, everything we need to know about stress and how to keep it from ruling our lives is instantly available. On the other hand, the statistics clearly indicate a human condition with significant challenges with stress.

And stress isn't the only topic. Search the word "motivation" or the phrase "how to learn Spanish" or "how to change a flat tire." Again, you'll have pretty much everything you need to know right in the palm of your hands. And yet so many struggle with motivation, and so many want to learn Spanish but don't know how or where to start.

Here's my point:

The challenges we face are not for a lack of information, but a lack of implementation.

What have you tried to accomplish, but your intensity faded and you ceased the effort? How many New Year's resolutions have you started that never got much past February?

What if I told you your chances of success could improve by 95 percent? What if I told you that percentage is backed up by research?

Based on the work by the American Society of Training and Development, people are 65 percent likely to meet a goal or New Year's resolution after committing to another person. And their chances of success increase to 95 percent when they build in ongoing meetings with their partners to check in on their progress.

Why not join the "95 Club?" You can check in weekly with a group of fellow goal seekers, and even get your group led by a trained facilitator.

You could start the new year on your own and risk another disappointment. Or, you could give the 95 Club a try and set yourself up for a much greater probability of meeting and even exceeding your goals.

Perhaps 2021 promises a whole new exciting life of accomplishment. Why not?
