Lead us not into temptation at work

Whether we are aware of it or not, temptation is all around us at work. It didn’t get left at home when we stepped through the office doors. As we take God to work with us, we should also be aware that the enemy is actively working there too. 

Starting our day with the Lord in prayer and committing our day and our work to God is the best way to keep the door shut on all sorts of temptation when they arise at work.

I love the armor of God and physically “put it on” every morning, so I am ready to do battle. 

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:13-17). 

Be conscious of what thoughts you are thinking, and then speak Scripture out loud to combat the wrong thoughts.

If you open the door even a crack to any temptation at work: think just one wrong thought, look once (and then a second time!), step into an inappropriate conversation or dwell too long in a private or intimate moment, you just invited Satan to come on in, and “set a spell” (as we say in the South). 

The swiftest glorifying response is to shut the door immediately or stop yourself from opening it in the first place. Today, fight temptation at work with the presence of the Lord and His Word, and your victory will be assured.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
