Humbled for my own good
Not long ago, I was humbled by an industry colleague. Didn't feel good. In fact, I was shocked at the treatment from someone I considered a friend.
The next day, after a night of fitful sleep and wrestling with God, events developed that allowed me to save face. The Lord also graciously helped me distill a nugget of truth from my friend that I needed.
One thing this experience did, especially that restless night, was to put me in my place at the feet of a sovereign God. It forced me to trust him to bring good out of the situation, which he always promises to do (see Rom. 8:28), though it may not happen right away.
After he rescued me and taught me the lesson I had to learn, he also reminded me that humility comes before honor (Prov. 18:12).
When I accept the Lord's humbling as a good thing, I find it a little easier to wait for the blessing that I know is sure to come.
