How my weakness became my greatest superpower

How my weakness became my greatest superpower

Music played softly in the worship center. Church members bustled about, making last-minute preparations for the service. Two young girls sat talking and giggling in their seats before worship began. Along came another girl who tried very hard to get their attention but to no avail. As she walked away, I heard her softly say, “I guess I’m just invisible.”

My heart sank because I felt her pain. I understand the struggles that go with feeling invisible.

Has someone ever asked, “If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?” I typically step away from those conversations. I was certain I was invisible and there was nothing super about it.

Ironically, often what we deem as a weakness is the thing God will choose to use in our lives for His glory.

I saw myself as one without a voice. God used it to develop my ability to listen. From listening, I learned to identify areas of need in people’s lives that were not necessarily voiced.

I saw myself as invisible. He taught me to see others more clearly. He taught me to pay attention and above all, to take no one for granted. I know now that I cannot be invisible because He, the King of kings, chose me to be His.

If I did not know what it was like to feel invisible, I would not have noticed that sweet girl that is now so precious to me. What we deem as a weakness is most certainly something He can use for His glory.

These days, God is using my abilities to provide administrative support for a pastor at an amazing church. There, I even have the opportunity to invest in the lives of fifth-grade girls, reminding them every day that they are uniquely created. They matter. They are loved.

That sweet girl from the worship center, she’s doing just fine as she discovers God’s gifts in her life. She has talents and abilities she is only beginning to discover. If you see me in church on Sunday, you’ll see her; she’s the one sitting next to me.

If you see me, don’t be afraid to ask me what my superpower is. It is invisibility!

What is your superpower? Did you know all along it was a superpower or, did you first see it as a weakness? How has He used that weakness for His glory?
