Ugh, Here I am again, in the “hallway.” My pastor calls it the “Hallway of Hell.”
You’ve been here too, yes? Maybe you’re there now. The question is: What are you doing while you’re in the hallway?
At the beginning of this year, I was “in the hallway” in just about every aspect of my life: personal life, work/ministry/calling right now. Last year, God took away a two-and-a-half-year ministry with women in the local jail that I loved! There was so much He was doing to change me, stretch me and teach me as I preached, coaching and ministered to them one-on-one. And then it abruptly ended. No warning.
Now, it seems like we’re all in the hallway with this crisis. Most everything we did or enjoyed or worked at, has ceased. Many of us are thinking, God, are you trying to get my attention?
I personally believe He is. He wants us to turn back to Him and make Him the priority in our lives.
So, let’s talk about the hallway, the one with all the closed doors. The one that’s dim and dark. With that awful faded, well-worn carpet. And did I mention allthe doors were closed? All of them, not one even cracked open a little, to give a little ray of light, a little ray of hope.
For the first few weeks, I rolled my eyes, impatiently kicking at the doors, trying to get any of them open or to open just a crack. After all, I’m a Type-A driver!
However, when there were results, I stopped acting like a three year-old and chose a different way to be in the hallway.
I got on my knees in a prayer closet, with a journal, praising, praying and listening. For the past two months, I’ve been getting variations of the message “Behold, I am doing a new thing. Wait on Me.”
My life verse for this year is Isaiah 43:18,19:
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
And this year I have been proclaiming this over my life and work.
I changed my hallway behavior, and guess what? The Lord is bringing me to a new faith at work initiative, more work that maximizes my giftings, and work in a marketplace ministry that will have impact on hundreds of Christian women leaders.
How about you? Are you in the hallway with your leadership? Your calling? Your work? Your finances?
How are you spending your time there? Are you pacing impatiently, kicking at doors until you force one open? Or will you be waiting patiently, praising, praying and glorifying the Lord as you wait?
