Have you thought about your work testimony?
Is God building another testimony in you, through your work? This occurred to me the other day while listening to a female executive share one of her testimonies around her career. If we are truly following Christ, He gives us more than one testimony.
Yes, there’s the big one, the one involving our salvation. However, there’s also the current one—the one He’s crafting with us right now, often in our workplace.
Perhaps we’re not looking anymore because we already have our testimony. Maybe we’re not sensitive to it, not expecting it or not paying attention—we’re missing it.
Are you experiencing a testimony in the making in your work? In your leadership at work?
In a work testimony, we can experience any number of upheavals such as a new boss, a demotion (yes, I’ve been there), layoff, firing (yes, I’ve been there) or being transferred. Part of the test is how we respond. We know there’s no testimony without the test!
Not reacting
Reacting oftenincludes fear, self-pity, anger, bitterness, resentment or push-back. Reacting often involves an emotional response to the situation. Of course we’re going to have an emotional response. Emotions are natural and they’re an indicator that something has to be addressed in our soul.
However, wallowing or indulging in them becomes a stumbling block to the lesson. Reacting to upheaval with our emotions leading the way, almost always ends badly.
Hopefully, during the test, we’ll choose to focus on the Lord and trust that God is sovereign in our work. That He may have brought this major change or this ________ to an end, for His Glory, not our punishment.
So how about you?Are you going through a hard time at work? If you are, will you let it turn into a God-honoring work testimony?
Here’s a short prayer that may help: Lord, I know you are sovereign. I trust that this will be used for your glory. Show me what you want me to know, teach me what you want me to learn in this situation. I pray for ________________, that they will grow closer to you, as a result of my handling this situation. Help me build this testimony, for your glory, Lord. Amen.
