Dwell: A fresh way to explore Scripture’s richness
Have you ever tried "dwelling" on a passage of Scripture? It's different from memorizing, or even meditating.
Consider what it means to dwell somewhere. You spend time there, you come and go, you get familiar with the surroundings.
The same can be true in Bible reading. Recently, I've inhabited a couple pages and have been surprised at what the Lord has shown me.
Here's how it played out. After taking a couple months to read through the book of Acts, I wanted to do something different.
So, I opened to Psalms. I landed on 103, which I realized I had memorized a long, long time ago. It was like revisiting an old friend as I strolled among the familiar words.
I decided I would try to re-memorize it and spent a few minutes daily reacquainting myself with the passage.
I glanced at the previous psalm as well. As I casually read through it, parts spoke loudly to me.
Sudden spotlights shone into unexpected areas of my life. Almost every day, the Spirit revealed new truths through those unfamiliar verses.
Is there a new spot in Psalms where you could park, and stay a while? How about Proverbs? Or Ecclesiastes?
Better yet, ask the Holy Spirit to plant you beside whatever stream of living water he chooses. You might even find yourself in a book or chapter you've never read.
As you dwell there, unhurried and expectant, prepare for the Word to well up in your life in fresh ways.
Dwelling with you,
