Do you crave the good (and quiet) life?
In the Bible, Paul is depicted as an extravagant dreamer and productive doer. His goal was to preach the gospel where Christ's name hadn't been heard yet (Rom. 15:20). He was a kingdom trailblazer, traveling the known world to fearlessly proclaim the truth.
His ambition wasn't selfish. While we like to make our marks on the world today in visible ways, he admonished his readers to do nothing out of selfish desire (Phil. 2:3).
He also tells believers to "make it your ambition to lead a quiet life" (1 Thess. 4:11).
You and I may not be in a position yet to live the "quiet life." But the deeper question of ambition is a valuable one.
In other words, why do I work so hard? How much selfish ambition do I have? What would a quieter life look like for me, and do I want that?
For me, being quiet doesn't mean working less, but seeking peace, waiting on the Lord, and serving him. What about you?
In Christ,
