Book review: A Spectacle of Glory

Nov. 7, 2017 | by Kim Niles

I thoroughly enjoyed Joni Eareckson Tada's new devotional book, A Spectacle of Glory: God's Light Shining Through Me Every Day.

I have been an avid fan and reader of Joni since 1990, when I was introduced to Joni by my sister's boyfriend (who was a quadriplegic).

Those who have seen Joni's inspirational movie, read her books, seen her incredible art work, or know of her ministry, Joni & Friends, know that she is a very godly woman—with an incredible testimony—who truly allows God to work in her and through her life. I have found her to be a highly motivational person who I really enjoy learning from.

Joni's new devotional will uplift and encourage you, speak important truths to your heart and will challenge you to a much closer relationship with the Lord.

You will be challenged towards growth as you keenly see her hearts cry of not wanting to miss anything the Lord has for her—completely desiring to be as close to God as possible.

Life can be hard; living without God would be much harder. Whether your life is on the sunny side of the street right now or you are experiencing torrential storms in life, A Spectacle of Glory will guide you to the heart of God and a deeper understanding of His beautiful, wonderful heart.

God deeply cares about the direction of each of our lives, and Joni reminds us that God is faithful and merciful—He has fresh, new experiences in store for us every single day.

I appreciated so much all that this amazing devotional offered, and I also appreciated the gentle guidance towards not just contemplating life while here on earth, but our future in Heaven as well.

Investing in others, looking at the greater picture of our relationships with God and others, and how we can love and encourage others was also thought-provoking.

Written as a daily devotional (January 1-December 31), A Spectacle of Glory offers a quick, yet powerful, daily devotional with a daily Bible verse. I found this to be ideal as a “get my morning started” devotional, especially on my busiest days. It was packed with great Bible verses and encouraging truths each day!

God is near and He is so very interested in our lives. It was so nice to read each day's specific devotion and be reminded of God's direction and great love for all of His creation each day.

You'll be encouraged, challenged, comforted, and delightfully nourished spiritually throughout the entire year.
