Book review: #GOSPEL

Ben Marshall

Refreshing is the word that comes to mind when I consider the content of #GOSPEL: Life, Hope, and Truth for Generation Now by Daniel Rice. We have all heard the gospel thousands of times, in almost hundreds of different ways. Nearly every pastor has his own way of proclaiming the gospel from the pulpit.

What Daniel Rice does in this book is deliver with fresh eyes, compelling stories and metaphors, bring the gospel to new light and understanding. Rice writes in such a way that every reader can connect with. At first glance, the thought may be, “Why another book about the gospel? It was pretty clear in the Bible, and there are so many books on what the gospel is and how to share it that I wouldn't have enough time in life to read them all.” However, I would encourage every person to pick up a copy of this book.

This isn't a book just for believers to be encouraged and reminded of the gospel. This is a movement Daniel Rice has started in “Generation Now” so that all might be engaged in gospel conversations. This book, and really this movement, is for those who are serious about engaging the world with the good news of Jesus Christ. Rice’s use of metaphors, analogies, and stories compel the reader to a new understanding, putting handholds on vague theological concepts, and helping the reader better understand the depth and significance of theology in daily living.

“Even in their rebellion, God in His goodness and the ever-persistent pursuit of His creation offered a rescue plan...God doesn't require perfection in those He uses—merely faith and obedience” (p 51-52). This is not just for the believer, but the unbeliever as well. We all have work to do. The world has not been fully reached with the Gospel, and we must go. We must be about the work of our Heavenly Father and bring the Good News of Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection into the world around us so the lost might be found.

Grab a copy of this book, join the #GOSPEL movement, and let's bring the life, hope, and truth of Jesus Christ to the world we live in.
