Be boldly unsure

Tom Harper

Be boldly unsure

"Fight the good fight of faith" (1 Tim 6:12). Faithful #leadership fights for – and with – faith.

Do any of us know what tomorrow brings? Of course not. We've got to take that action, make that hire, form that team, reassign that volunteer, cast that vision, all without 100% certainty how any of it will turn out.

The past five months, I've been frustrated more than at any other time in my career. You can relate, I'm sure. The future has shifted so much, sometimes it feels like we've done a 180 and we're going into the past.

In order to keep my sanity, I've realized I must accept my personal inadequacy and the inability to see the future with much confidence.

I also must prepare for people around me to fail – and even expect myself to fail at times.

If we have this frame of mind, it drives us to become better leaders. More importantly, it also drives us to our knees in prayer.

Leaders must be boldly unsure. Just about every major biblical leader exhibited this quality. Men like Noah, Moses, Joseph, Gideon and David all charged ahead at different times in their lives even when they weren't sure of the outcome.

"Now go; I will help you speak & will teach you what to say" (Ex 4:12). When we are called to #leadership, he guides us.

Let's step into the future with the confidence of God's assured help.
