Are you on war footing?
I’m sure you’ve had your fill of sleepless anxiety and chaotic confusion. I know I have!
These days for me are rollercoaster rides of faith, fear, trust and turmoil. I feel confident in the morning, only to read a news headline that sends me into the depths by lunch.
I’m weary of the incessant undercurrent of anxiety. New daily routines aren't routine in any comforting sense of the word – the days are more like surreal existence that simply repeats.
While we struggle with the losses in our businesses, churches and ministries, we know how important it is to keep moving forward … and yet it’s like trudging through mud.
I can’t begin to imagine what it’s like to lose a loved one to this virus. My experience has been limited to material havoc that has swept through my business. That side of life will eventually recover.
The unseen enemy creeping through our world reminds me of another one that prowls like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).
While we rightly focus on our physical health, let us also be spiritually alert and of sober mind. Satan will not waste this opportunity. He is taking advantage of this pandemic just like he’s taken advantage of wars and plagues throughout history.
As we watch for his works, Ephesians 6:10 also exhorts us to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” It is not time to let our fear diminish our reaction.
Will you join me in suiting up for the spiritual side of this war?
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. —Eph. 6:14-15
