A prayer for the imposter in your chair

[May God] equip you with everything good for doing his will, and
may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through
Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
– Hebrews 13:21

Do you ever feel weak or inadequate in your position of authority? I don't mean when you're in your afternoon slump or just having a down day, but rather those times when you feel insufficient in general.

Some call it the "imposter complex," when the leader hopes no one finds out he's really not cut out for the job.

Hebrews 13:21 is a great prayer to recite when we feel like this. It's a prayer God will answer because he gives it to us in his Word. Not only will he equip us to do the work he wants us to do, he will change us in ways that please him.

"Lord," you could say, "I'm not good enough to do this job you've called me to do. Equip me, change me, show me what your will is. You've promised to do this through the power of Jesus Christ who lived and died so that I could be yours. Amen."

He will swap your inadequacy with his infinite power, which the writer of Hebrews describes in verse 20 as a power that "brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus."

If God has dominion over life and death, imagine what he could do with your leadership.
