We're called to develop expert-level leadership skills

Tom Harper

It's a given that character is a requirement for any Christian leader, because a lack of it can damage many people's faith.

We don't have to look far to find Christian leaders that have let down their followers and caused many to abandon the church and even the faith.

While character is hugely important, we must also develop practical leadership skills.

In Psalm 78, the writer says that when God chose David to lead Israel, the young man "shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them" (verse 72).

Proverbs 22:29 says, "Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank."

What kind of skills are we talking about?

If you're a shepherd, be the best. Maybe even kill a lion to prove it.

If you're a musician, practice until you're an expert. Psalm 33:3 says to "play skillfully" as you praise the Lord.

If you're in the marketplace, work with every ounce of wisdom, knowledge and skill you have. This will not only please your boss but will help you earn a good wage.

In fact, whatever you do, pretend God's your boss and watches every move you make!

His worthiness deserves our excellence.

Working with you,
