3 things to remember when it feels like your sky is fallingiStock

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

Lost.

Overwhelmed.

Disconnected.

Anxious.

We’ve all felt this way. At one time or another, we’ve suffered personal or professional setbacks that made us feel like our sky was falling. A project might have failed, you didn’t perform to your level of competence, or maybe you might have even lost your job.

Whatever the cause, God doesn’t want us to feel this way. He loves us. And, He’s got big plans for us, and we can’t fulfill those plans if we’re stuck in a pattern of second-guessing, doubt, anger, or fear!

The next time you find yourself feeling lost, overwhelmed, disconnected, or anxious, here are three things to remember:

1.  You come bearing gifts.

No matter what you feel you’ve lost, you are never actually empty handed. You’ve been blessed with unique gifts. You have a heart for service. You have transferable skills. You have work ethic. You have life experience, insight, and wisdom. You have love to give and are able to accept others’ love in return.

Nothing and no one can take these assets away from you. No matter what situation you find yourself in, you still have access to the parts of you that matter most…your God-given gifts.

2.  There is a deep and abiding need for your unique gifts.

God blessed you with your gifts not just to help you grow, but also because He knew others would need them and benefit from your service as well. Remember this. You have unique gifts that others sorely need!

3.  God cares about connecting your gifts with the needs of this world.

God’s got the big picture, and He knows exactly how you fit into it. He knows better than anyone else the steps you can take to get yourself into a position where you can succeed through serving others.

Instead of trying to move yourself forward, imagine being moved forward through your service to others.

It’s pretty hard to imagine God not helping you along this path, isn’t it?

Let Him help you serve.

When you find yourself feeling anxious, quiet your mind. Stay calm. Then — ask for God’s guidance. Ask Him where you can offer someone else help, and healing…

... and be helped and healed in return.
